Spatial Segregation in Demography: A Short Review
Abstract. Spatial has always been an inherent component of demography, and demographic processes are inherently spatiotemporal. Recognizing the importance of spatial in general and spatial segregation in particular in demographic analysis has created new positions in demography and its conceptual and analytical frameworks. The notion of spatial segregation refers to the distribution of social...
متن کاملImage Indexing and Spatial Similarity-Based Retrievals
Similarity-based retrieval is an essential requirement for retrieval of images by contents. In this paper, we are introducing a new symbolic image representation technique and an indexing scheme for spatial similarity-based retrieval of images. In this technique, an image is recursively decomposed into a spatial arrangement of distinct features to preserve the spatial information of image objec...
متن کاملSpatial Segregation and Urban Structure
In this paper, we study social interactions between two populations of individuals living in a city. Agents consume land and benefit from intraand inter-group social interactions. We show that in equilibrium segregation arises: populations get separated in distinct spatial neighborhoods. Twoand three-district urban structures are characterized. For high population ratios or strong intergroup in...
متن کاملImage Indexing Based on Spatial Similarity
We introduce ImageMap, as a method for indexing and similarity searching in Image DataBases (IDBs). ImageMap answers “queries by example”, involving any number of objects or regions and taking into account their inter-relationships. We adopt the most general image content representation, that is Attributed Relational Graphs (ARGs), in conjunction with the well-accepted ARG editing distance on A...
متن کاملSimilarity-based acquisition of spatial categories
A very natural approach to categorization is similaritybased clustering. We propose a visual representation which can be used with such a mechanism for the acquisition of spatial relation categories. We also show how supervision can be helpful in cases where basic similarity is low by proposing a learning mechanism which operates both in the presence and in the absence of words.
